to-pic.jpg As we prepare for the NFL season to begin, it is also time to prepare for the fantasy football season to start. Last year, I had 5 Cowboys on my FFT, starting out with Drew Bledsoe at QB, Terry Glenn as WR, TE Jason Witten , RB Marion Barber and finally, K Mike Vanderjagt. As we all know, changes had to be made during the season, especially when Bledsoe was benched permanently after Week 7. Fortunately, I was able to pick up Romo off waivers. Why not T.O. or Julius Jones you might ask, simply because they weren’t available when my turn to draft came around. Now I know it’s probably not smart to load your FF team with players from your favorite NFL team, but I just can’t seem to help myself. I always have such great hopes for them and think I’ll capitalize in my fantasy league also. Reviewing these picks from last year, Barber was suprisingly productive for me, Glenn started out great but trailed off later in the season and Vanderjagt was a huge disappointment that ended up as a drop. Witten, as most TE’s wasn’t much of a points factor and Romo was average overall.

This year, most FFL predictions show only one Cowboy in the top 20 of potential draftees, that being WR Terrell Owens, and rightfully so. Good luck to you if he’s still available in your league when you draft! Terry Glenn should have an outstanding season, so I intend to at least try to secure him again this year. QB Tony Romo is somewhere around eleventh or twelfth on most lists, and I’m sure I’ll have trouble getting him on my team this year but will certainly try. RB’s Julius Jones or Marion Barber are solid choices, but not in the top 25 of anyone’s list of RB’s this year. I say Barber will still provide any team with solid points and hope to again have him on my roster. I would also take Jones, but as usual, I don’t expect him to be available when I get around to drafting my RB.

TE Jason Witten should have a better year and be more involved in the offense but a secondary choice may be TE Anthony Fasano in his second year out of Notre Dame. A good kicker is probably the most underrated player of any FFT, as in real football, and getting a top one is hard to do in any draft. K Martin Grammatica is not on the top of any K’ers list, and it’s a hard call to say if he will be a good producer this year or not, so trust your instincts with this one. And last but not least, there’s the choice of DT/ST (at least on the league I play). The Cowboys should have a decent defensive team this year and are usually solid on special teams as well, but I usually have another strong DT and only play the Boys DT against teams they should beat easily.

Other possible players could be WR’s Patrick Crayton and Sam Hurd or PK Nick Folk, but there are not many players remaining that could impact a fantasy team. As always, let me know your thoughts or suggestions on this. Good luck with whichever Cowboys players you choose.
