More Injuries Reported After Two-A-Days Start

camp2_072807_360.jpgAfter several practices with only the pre-camp injury list intact, several notable players suffered some reported minor injuries in Sunday’s practice .  The most notable being WR Terry Glenn hearing a popping sound in his right knee during some drills and leaving the field with the head trainer never to return.  His status is to be updated today.  This is the same knee he injured in training camp several years ago while with the Green Bay Packers.

Another Glenn also left camp, CB Aaron Glenn also missed practice Sunday with knee soreness and swelling, which is expected to return to normal without anticipated draining of the knee according to Coach Phillips.  This is the same knee he had scoped during the off-season.

Just prior to Terry Glenn leaving the field, LB Kevin Burnett left the field with what has been described as a “dinger” after a blow to the helmet caused some discomfort in his neck.  Feeling a bit “woozy” after the contact, it was determined not to be a concussion and he should be fine in a day or two.

OL Marc Colombo and LB Greg Ellis are still not expected to practice for at least a week but Ellis has promised his status will be resolved in a few days regarding both his contract and injury status.  He has been somewhat unhappy since the first round drafting of Anthony Spencer and wants assurances from the front office of their commitment to him.   Coach Phillips and others all state that they have complete confidence that he will return soon and all will be fine and that Ellis will be on the roster at the opening of the season.  “I’ve expected that the whole time.  I don’t know why he wouldn’t be.”,  Phillips said.  “As a coach, you want players like Greg Ellis-guys who can make plays, that work hard, that have the right character, great people.”

Ellis was tied for the team lead in sacks when he got hurt last year and has served as Captain for the last two years.  He is one of the most respected players in the locker room and it would be a tremendous loss if he were not to return this year.
