Adams Feels He Has Something To Prove

fadamsgame.jpgEntering the final year of a five year contract, Flozell Adams has attained many goals, all but one.   He still is looking for his first Championship ring and all that goes with being a Super Bowl winner.  A perennial Pro Bowler and considered one of the top tackles in the NFL, that one elusive objective remains strong within him.

“That’s really the only main goal I’ve got right now – getting to the Super Bowl,” Adams said. “Things like the Pro Bowl is good. But once you’ve been to one you focus more on another goal you haven’t accomplished, and that’s winning a Super Bowl.”

After being sidelined for most of the 2005 season with a torn ACL, Adams returned to play all 16 games in 2006.  In fact, the injury in ’05 broke his streak of 111 straight games played since being drafted in 1998.  So staying healthy is big on his agenda this year as he hopes to reach that pinnacle every player hopes for.

As for his contract status, Adams doesn’t really have much to say.  “That stuff just plays out itself,” Adams said after a training camp practice here at the Alamodome. “I can’t really worry about that. Honestly, I don’t worry about that at all. Whatever happens, happens. To me, as a person, you can’t really focus on stuff like that right now when you have the season ahead of you.”

It would seem this is the year he either becomes a franchise player or tries to improve his value in the free agency market next year, but Adams himself would prefer to stay right where he is.  “I’d love to be a Cowboy forever,” Adams said. “I just like the team. I just love being a Cowboy. Even though I don’t wear a 10-gallon hat and some Cowboy boots, it doesn’t mean I don’t like being a Cowboy.”

Regardless of whether his team and he accomplish their goal of winning another Super Bowl this year, Adams still yearns to become the best tackle in football.  He considers himself to be in the top five now and if he does get that ring, it’s quite possible he will be considered at the top.
