Cowboys on a Roll

Crayton scores

The Cowboys have been on a roll lately, not only have they gone 4 and 0 but they are also leading the NFL in points, and are second only to New England Patriots in points differential, this after a dismal showing of the Dallas Cowboys defense in game one where they gave up over thirty points to the NY Giants.  Since then, however, the Dallas defense has only given up thirty points in the last three games, not including the 7 given up against the Rams last Sunday on a Special Teams play.

The sudden success in the first four games of the season has many believing the Cowboys will go undefeated until week 6 when they face the New England Patriots.  The Buffalo Bills don’t promise to bring much of a challenge against this high powered Dallas Cowboys offense, and while last week’s game was to be the match up of the Dallas Defense against the Rams offense, this week will be the Bills Defense against a superior Dallas Offense.  That’s all on paper however, and as we all know the game isn’t played on paper.  The Cowboys still have to win the game at Buffalo, a series that Dallas owns a 4-3 advantage over the years in.

While it’s too early to start worrying about the New England Patriots, the Cowboys can still do one thing in this week’s match up to show they are ready for another high powered team.  That is to score early.  Right now the majority of the Cowboys success has come in the second half of games.  While the Cowboys only average about 10 points in the first half of games they are averaging close to 30 points in the second half.  If they can start playing the first half of games as well as they do the second half, it’ll go a long way against better teams.  That’s not to take anything away from the Dallas Cowboys so far, but as Wade Phillips has said countless times so far this season, and even Bill Parcells last season, there is always room to improve.  This is one way for the team to improve.
