Cowboys Have Edge Against Redskins And Will Keep It

crayton-at-giants.jpgEveryone knows, especially Cowboys fans, about the long-running rivalry between the ‘Skins and ‘Boys.  The Cowboys have the most recent advantage in the series, being 5-3 over the last several meetings, but who can forget the last one.  After getting into what appeared to be game-winning field goal position, the Redskins blocked the kick and got a questionable personal foul facemask penalty, that should have only been a five-yarder, and with no time left on the clock, the Redskins got to kick the game-winner instead.  It marked the beginning of a slide for the ‘Boys and their defense.

There was also the MNF debacle in ’05 where the Boys seemed to have the game well in hand but lost in the last 2 minutes thanks to two long TD passes from Mark Brunnel to Sanatana Moss, giving the ‘Skins a 14-13 win at home.  I certainly don’t think this will happen again this year, as they say, lightning doesn’t strike the same place twice, and the ‘Skins don’t have Mark Brunnel at QB now either.  Sanatana Moss has been saddled by a lingering injury and the Cowboys have been doing rather well against the deep pass of late.  But this could serve to inspire the Cowboys in what would seem to be a trap game, not that any division game should be thought of as such.

With a 5-4 record, Washington has been on somewhat of an upswing with the improved play of rookie QB Jason Campbell and the strong running of Clinton Portis.   But their big play receivers aren’t doing much and the Cowboys are too tough against the run for the Skins to rely too heavily on the run game.

That is why I feel the edge, or difference-maker in this week’s matchup will be WR Patrick Crayton.  Washington is going to do their best to stop T.O. and Witten, as many have tried, and Crayton has shown he has the potential to make some big plays deep down the field.   Overall, the Cowboys just have too much talent for the ‘Skins  this year and will put up some big numbers, just like the Pats did, against their defense.

My prediction, Cowboys 41 – Redskins 13.
