The Ups and Downs Between Week 14 and 15

It’s too easy to get caught up in the little nuances that happen so frequently through the week. You have Tony Romo hurting his finger, and the slight possibility that Jessica Simpson is bad luck at a game. You have Roy Williams getting suspended, and everyone wondering whether he’ll ever learn. You have Terrell Owens being reported on ESPN of throwing Romo to the curbside. All said and done it seems things are never quiet when you are Dallas fan.

This isn’t about the “bad” things that happen during the week, well not just the bad anyways. There are plenty of things going on. For instance if you checked the other columns on Cowboys Gab, and not just my insights, you would note that 11 Dallas Cowboys players are going to the Pro Bowl. That ties the team record for most players to be selected. If you are a really avid follower of the Dallas Cowboys and have checked out dallascowboys.com you would also note that Terry Glenn stands a really good chance of returning to the field before the seasons end. If you aren’t still down about last week’s disappointing loss to the Philadelphia I’d also like to point out the Cowboys are 12-2 also tying a club’s single season best record. Why the last team to win 12 games only had to play 14 games in a season.

Now, I like to think that the readers of Cowboys Gab are the smarter than average, not so garden variety, Cowboys fans. The kind of fan that doesn’t watch ESPN with out at the very least counter referencing their stories. Like all the hoopla made about the Terrell Owens interview that was broadcast live yesterday. As for a good few of the reporters who were there would tell you he said all he said about Romo and Simpson with a smile on his face. It was a joke, but in case you guys didn’t catch that it was a joke, he did publicly apologize in a Dallas Morning News article. Though, I guess when it comes to T.O. there is no such thing as a joke.

When Reggie Bush went down for the Saints a couple weeks ago, all looked lost for the Saints running game, but low and behold without Bush it actually improved. I am hoping the same thing will happen with Roy Williams being out against the Carolina Panthers. I like Roy Williams, he seems like a good guy, but has anyone not notice that he is a liability in pass coverage? What’s more is his run coverage seems to have gone down the drain as well. We have a few young Safeties on the Dallas Cowboys, and it wouldn’t really surprise me if one of them shows up huge against the Panthers this Saturday.

Terry Glenn looks doubtful to play this week against Carolina, but he is practicing with the team now, and may still have a chance to play next week against the Redskins. Terry Glenn has yet to play a snap this season, and many of you guys wondered why they haven’t put him on injured reserved. If he goes out and plays next week and has a few good catches, that’ll be a very good resounding reason why. If not there will still be a large number of naysayers out there.

Congratulations to these Cowboys Players who have been selected to the Pro Bowl:

(** denotes starter)

** Terrell Owens, WR (sixth selection)
** Flozell Adams, T (fourth selection)
** Jason Witten, TE (fourth selection)
** DeMarcus Ware, LB (second selection)
** Andre Gurode, C (second selection)
** Leonard Davis, G (first selection)
** Nick Folk, K (first selection)
Tony Romo, QB (second selection)
Marion Barber, RB (first selection)
Ken Hamlin, S (first selection)
Terence Newman, CB (first selection-and about time)

Finally it’s hard to keep this in mind sometimes, but the Cowboys are on pace for their best season ever in many statistical settings. Twelve and Two is more than even Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, and Emmitt Smith back in the Cowboys glory days. The sky is not falling, the season is not over, just sit back relax and watch these final two games.
