Five Dallas Players Listed as Out in Season Finale- Glenn Listed as Probable

The Cowboys will be resting five players, four of which are starters, against the Washington Redskins on Sunday. According to dallascowboys.com wide receiver Terrell Owens (ankle), cornerback Terrence Newman (knee), center Andre Gurode (knee), nose tackle Jay Ratliff (knee), and Safety Pat Watkins (ankle) will all be held out against the Redskins.

Terry Glenn, who hasn’t played all season, has been moved up to probable on the injury report and will likely see the field for the first time this season. Wade Phillips did add a stipulation however, by stating it would be weather permitting. Wade Phillips intends to err on the side caution, by not allowing Glenn play on a field that could re-injure his knee.

Cowboys Likely to Play Starters

While it’s unclear how much time any of the starters will play, all early indications show that the Cowboys will be starting the majority of their starters on Sunday. It is likely that Tony Romo, Marion Barber, and Jason Witten will likely play in just the first half. Wade Phillips also indicated the Terry Glenn is expected to play just a half as well.

While many would view individual accomplishments as of very little importance, it doesn’t appear Wade Phillips agrees. His team equals family attitude that he has brought to the Dallas Cowboys in many ways seems to encourage personal goal setting, and he is more than willing to help them be reached. So it is likely that Romo will get a chance to throw 6 more completions for a franchise record, that he’ll give Witten to at least get 6 more completions to become only the second Tight End in NFL history with 100 receptions, and give Marion Barber an opportunity to gain 19 more yards to reach the 1000 yard mark for the first time in his NFL career.

Backups Get a Chance to Shine

Brad Johnson hasn’t played a meaningful snap all season, while last year’s first round pick hasn’t seen the field much since the pre-season. This, however, will change this Sunday against the Redskins. Though, as I mentioned earlier, the Starters will be playing this game; it won’t be for more than a half. That’ll give players like Bobby Carpenter, Anthony Spencer, Tyson Thompson, and Brad Johnson a real opportunity to show people why they are on the team.

Prediction Time

Each week around this time I like to give my prediction after giving a game preview. I have been trying to justify a reason to say that the Cowboys will win against the Redskins this week when most people are calling it a meaningless game. Today I found my excuse, the Redskins are 9 point favorites over a Cowboys team that has had a superior season to the Redskins. What better reason does anyone need, than all out disrespect from Las Vegas odd setters? So I will take the Cowboys to beat the Washinton Redskins 28-17, and the Redskins will miss their chance at the Playoffs.
