Cowboys Given 3-Day Weekend To Relax

I agree that this year’s players earned a 3-day weekend to watch some football and take a break. I just hope there aren’t any incidents as has plagued many teams recently in similar circumstances. But it seems Wade Phillips and the coaching staff has done a very good job in communicating to their players just what not to do during these times, as was evidenced during the bye week of the regular season when they also were given a long weekend and no off-field problems occurred.

Another advantage to this break will be the interviewing of Garrett and Sparano can happen without most of the media blitz that comes with the players also present at Valley Ranch. So all of the concern about this process is really not warranted, as the coaches will be free to start preparing Monday for the upcoming game on the 13th at the same time the players return to practice.

Congratulations goes out to S Roy Williams on making his fifth-straight Pro Bowl, albeit as an alternate-turned-roster player due to the replacement of Sean Taylor. He has received quite a bit of criticism this season, not to mention a one-game suspension for the horse-collar tackles, most of this coming from our very own Dallas fans who seem convinced he should be traded or otherwise released from the team! Way to go Roy! That’s showing ’em. I just hope you have a pro-bowl caliber game on the 13th and thereafter.

During the break I’m positive there will be much talk about the status of WR Terrell Owens. Latest reports are all very positive and I am fully anticipating his return to practice sometime next week. Also, Terry Glenn will get lots of reps to help with the timing between he and Romo, so I expect a much better performance from him in the playoff game than the Washington one.

All-in-all, not much really else to do but watch this weekend’s games and see just who will be coming to Dallas to get their butts kicked by the Cowboys on Jan. 13th.
