Zach Thomas to Become a Cowboy?

Early reports coming from Dallas today says that Zach Thomas is expected to sign a deal with the Dallas Cowboys.  Earlier in the week it was reported that Zach Thomas received offers from both New England and New Orleans, but Thomas wanted to visit Dallas and Indianapolis before making his final decision.

Zach Thomas, who grew up in Pampa, Texas and would later become a standout player at Texas Tech, had expressed early interest in playing for the Cowboys.  At 34 years of age, this will likely be his final stop.  Being closer to home was likely a major factor in his decision to signing with the Dallas Cowboys.

Most analysts are going to question this move by the Dallas Cowboys.  Zach Thomas is undersized for a linebacker in any defensive scheme, and while he has done more than enough to show that was a non factor playing in the 4-3 scheme, it could still be a problem in the 3-4.  The Cowboys are also well stacked in the linebacker position and at first glance doesn’t seem like Zach Thomas will fill much of a role.  Coach, Wade Phillips and GM/Owner Jerry Jones must see something different.  Time will only tell who is right.
