Cowboys Quiet So Far In Free Agency

Close to the end of the first week or so of free agency, the Cowboys are uncharacteristically quiet so far except for protecting a few of their own free agents, mainly Flozell Adams.  Jacques Reeves left for the other team in Texas, the Houston Texans, and although there were rumors of Warrick Dunn coming to Dallas, it appears that isn’t going to happen.  There just isn’t enough money available under the cap for such signings right now.

I’m quite sure Dallas is looking first to the draft to see what players they can get before considering free agents, but you just never know with Jerry Jones.  There’s still rumors of trading draft picks, etc. to either get players later in the draft or to trade for other veteran players that could be available later in free agency.  Javon Walker didn’t work for the same reasons, as it will most likely be after the draft before any serious signings occur.

In other news, the coaching staff vacancies are now all filled with the hiring of Brett Maxie as assistant secondary coach to assist Dave Campo and free agent Julius Jones is going to visit Detroit in hopes of becoming a starter somewhere else.   As you could have guessed, Maxie spent last season in Miami as safeties coach as the highway between Dallas and Miami is still running full throttle.  He will most likely perform in the same capacity in Dallas.   Mention must be made of the recent retirement of Brett Favre, who officially announced his retirement from the NFL yesterday, we are all certainly going to miss him and the class act that he was for 17 seasons in Green Bay.
