Cowboys Raise Stakes To Get Pacman Jones, Barber May Have To Alter Hairstyle

pacman-jones-run.jpgIt seems the Cowboys and Jerry Jones are quite serious in their attempt to acquire CB/KR Adam “Pacman” Jones from the Titans.  Now there’s rumors that Dallas has upped the offer of a seventh round draft pick to include a player!  Which player has not become evident as of yet, but with Tennessee’s need at RB, I would venture either Alonzo Coleman’s or Deon Anderson’s names were mentioned.

But with the shortage in Dallas of RB’s also, it might possibly be a reserve DB in the mix as possible trade fodder.  Another obstacle in the negotiations is the contract problem.  Pacman has two years left on his $30 million deal with Tennessee, but Dallas will most likely want to restructure it for less time and money due to his checkered past.

So regardless of whether you might want Jones to come to Big D, it appears to be only a matter of time before it’s a fact we’ll all have to live with.  The upside of the trade, as many of you have noted, is the possibility of having a tremendous defensive backfield and explosive kick-returner should he develop quickly back into his previous playing ability here in Dallas.  The downside would only be a late draft pick and a player who can be replaced in the draft, but who remains a question mark.  The money might be an issue too, but I imagine Jones will construct a deal much like the one with Tank Johnson’s last year, so it won’t be much of a hit if Jones doesn’t work out for some reason (hint:  prison).

The NFL will be discussing a new rule at the owner’s meeting in Florida this year, one that might immediately impact one of our favorite players, Marion Barber.  The rumor is that the owners may require any hair that extends below the hemet to be restrained inside the helmet.  To date, long hair has been considered part of the uniform and legal to use to make tackles, as long as not pulled “excessively”.   It’s not clear yet whether the rule will be about hair “below the helmet” or “covering the name on back of jerseys”, but either way, Marion the Barbarian will seem to be affected.
