Day 1 Of Draft Closes – Cowboys Get Three Players In 2 Rounds

Felix Jones, Mike Jenkins and Martellus Bennett were the Day 1 picks of the Cowboys, in that order.  Jones is the explosive RB to compliment Marion Barber that they needed and was their first pick in the draft while Jenkins is the defensive corner they may need sooner than later depending on how things develop with Pacman Jones.

The choice of Bennett, the former Aggie TE was good as they need to fill the gap left from the trade of Fasano to Miami in exchange for their fourth round pick at number 100 tomorrow.   There are still several quality WR’s and RB’s on the table, such as WR Early Doucet and RB Jamaal Charles.

There will be 36 players chosen before Dallas’ first pick tomorrow, unless Jerry Jones does some more dealing, but if not, I believe they will get the best available WR on the board.  It’s quite possible they might take Mario Manningham, who could very well still be available at that point.   The later rounds will be their chance to pick up a few offensive linemen to evaluate and use at training camp.  Another WR in the sixth or seventh round would be a good possibility, a player from a small school or a sleeper, like Amendola from Texas Tech.

Round 3 starts at 10 am ET, Sunday and I hope to get some insight tomorrow before the Cowboys do make their pick.
