Vacation Time Over, Time for the Draft (My Thoughts)

So the Pacman saga has finally ended only to begin again in a few short weeks.  Regardless of whether or not he decides to be good while playing in Dallas, this is going to be a saga.  If T.O. wasn’t news enough, the Cowboys have finally found them someone who will also hog the camera.  The last time the Cowboys had this much trouble on one team (T.O., Tank Johnson, and Pacman Jones) was in the 90s, they happened to win three Super Bowls with those guys.  Maybe Jerry Jones is trying to put something together using an old formula.  Here’s to hoping it works.

I have two or three ideas for the Cowboys to use in the draft.  With the first pick I think the Cowboys should take either a running back or a solid corner, and with the next pick take a wide receiver.  Corner or Running Back could be items addressed in the second round of the draft as they aren’t high priority needs as far as playing time is concerned, however, WR could be important.  If one is available the Cowboys could pick up a player that has a law degree and can pass the Texas bar exam; this maybe useful when dealing with Pacman Jones.

I do think for the most part that Jerry Jones does know what he is doing, but I am still worried.  A lot of moves are being made now that are based on some big ‘ifs’.  The first big if is assuming that the Cowboys trade with Pacman is a done deal.  Even if it is though, it doesn’t change the fact that the player is still suspended.  Roger Goodell has yet to indicate when and if he intends to lift the suspension anytime real soon.  The next big if is in reference to the recent trade with Miami.  Akin Ayodele and Anthony Fasano to Miami for a 4th round pick is only a good plan if Zach Thomas is truly ready to start in the 3-4 linebacker spot.  To me, making moves like this is a lot like putting all your eggs in one basket.

Drafting a CB in the first round could take some of the strain off the possibility that Jones isn’t going to play, but if Zach Thomas isn’t ready to play the pressure will fall on someone less experienced to fill that role.  My guess is Bobby Carpenter better be watching the game tape, he just may be moved to the inside to spell more back up duty.

These are my thoughts, what are yours?

I think you are close to what the Cowboys will actuslly do in the first round (or two). However, I strongly feel that the Cowboys will draft will draft a safety (Phillips or T. Johnson) and
a TE/HB (D. keller) in the first round… in no particular order.
