Latest Power Rankings Favor AFC

Just like last season, the AFC dominates the top of the power rankings in ESPN’s latest NFL power rankings.  The top 3 are all AFC teams with the Cowboys coming in fourth behind the Pats, Colts and Chargers.  The Giants, who did win the Super Bowl, remember, were ranked sixth in this latest, and possibly last preseason rating.

There are many arguments to be made about this latest poll, but it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the so-called experts and numerous analysts will stick to their evaluations regardless of the facts.  The facts being the NFC won both the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl.  Yet the NFC will be called the “underdog” all this season by the press.

In other developments, which aren’t much, T.O. and Romo are still having fun in the off-season and have made some headlines of late.  T.O. has a small role in a sitcom and after failing to qualify for the U.S. Open, Romo threw out the first pitch at a Cubs game on Sunday following it up by leading the crowd in singing “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” in the seventh inning.  The media is attempting to draw attention to these acts as somehow disruptive but the fans are discouraging this by not falling for their usual hype.  As long as they aren’t breaking the law, I say they’re free to pursue whatever makes them happy in the off-season.

I would rather hear about the lawsuit T.O. has pending against him regarding bonuses he received from the Philadelphia Eagles and if the team has made peace with Roy Williams’ solitary work-out routines.  Those news items would be more important than the above activities.

As for Williams, I applaud his desire to improve and be better this season, although he was in the Pro Bowl, many critics feel he has lost some of his intesity for the game.  But locker-room chemistry and team solidarity are important, so he must balance his personal goals with those of the team also.  If team members say they feel he is leaving them out, he must listen and make adjustments.

Overall, the team is looking good and seems poised to make the next step in their progression, hopefully one that includes winning a post-season game and getting into the Super Bowl this year.

  1. Nate Acreman says:

Right on, man. I am interested in finding out what is going on with Owens’ lawsuit, and really hope the best for him. I am also sick of the fact that the most common news coming out about the Cowboys is the Jessica Simpson/Tony Romo relationship. What do you mean our QB has a life outside of football? You mean he doesn’t sleep on the turf?

As for the continual favoring of the AFC, it’s ESPN, should we really expect anything less from these pseudo-experts? Great post, as always.
