Are The Cowboys Ready For The Season Opener?

In a first-game match where both teams would probably like to have another week to recover from injuries, are the Cowboys ready to take on the Browns in the Dog Pound tomorrow afternoon?

Pro Bowl CB Terrence Newman re-injured his partially torn groin during practice this week and is listed as questionable for tomorrow’s game.  And as late as this morning, the Cowboys were still tweaking their roster by releasing James Marten, a second-year offensive lineman, and signing rookie WR Mike Jefferson to the team.

With several receivers out due to injury, including the number three man, Sam Hurd, Dallas had to rob from the practice squad to ensure they would have enough personnel to field at the position for Sunday.  Isaiah Stanback is listed as questionable and Miles Austin is definitely out for the game, so something had to be done.  Marten might be signed to the practice squad but will have to clear waivers first.

Despite the injury situation, which has effected both teams, the Cowboys should still have enough firepower to overtake the Browns, but the game could prove to be closer than predicted due to the injury situation.  Dallas is playing in Cleveland for the first time since 1971 and will now face a potent Cleveland offense without their starting CB or number three receiver.  But even though the Browns are tough at home, my prediction is Cowboys 31, Browns 24.  (I changed my score from the podcast in case you listened to it.)
