1500 Miles to Graceland pt. 1

I left New Jersey this morning en route to making my first pilgrimage to Texas stadium. I have been a fan of the Dallas Cowboys since 1993, but living on the East Coast makes it extremely inconvenient to catch them at home. I have been to Giants stadium but it left me feeling like I need the real Cowboys experience. So when I heard that this is the last season for the stadium that I grew up watching, I knew that I had to go out of my way to make it there.

As the plane began its decent into Dallas/Ft. Worth I saw the hole in the roof and started pointing and jubilating like a child. To my excitement, upon checking into my hotel room and looking out the window, what else do I see but the greatest stadium in American sports.

My excitement has been bubbling over so much that as I watched Matt Cassel and the Patriots ran on the New York Brett’s parade, I sporadically stand up and peer over at the dome. Sunday Night Football is accompanied by periodic ganders at the lights of the Dallas cityscape. I visualize the Boys stomping the Iggles (even though I feel like this will be more like a slugfest). I imagine the tailgating that will have me surrounded by more likeminded football fans than ever before. Best of all, I dream of Terrell Owens pulling a sharpie out of his sock, signing a football and tossing it up to me.

Obviously, the No Fun League has squashed the last vision, but two outta three ain’t bad, right?
