Felix Jones Suffers Toe Injury During Rehab For Hamstring

Just when we were starting to believe that rookie sensation Felix Jones might be getting back on the field for the Cowboys, it was revealed today that he suffered a toe injury somewhat worse than turf toe while rehabbing his hamstring injury.  Although he did return to light duties during team practice yesterday, he isn’t expected to be fully recovered in time to play this Sunday against the 49’ers.

The reinstatement by the NFL of Adam “Pacman” Jones was the prevailing story yesterday, but to most of us Cowboys fans, the status of the other Jones is more important.  Since Dallas is playing two games in a short four day span, both Jones’ will most likely be held out until the Dec. 7th game at Pittsburgh.  In terms of who has been missed the most, I would say that Felix’s contributions were more important to the offense than Adam’s to the defense.  Let’s face it, there are more capable replacements in the defensive backfield for him than there are for the explosiveness of Felix Jones.

Felix had 266-yards on just 30 carries with three touchdowns in his first six games and averaged over 27-yards per kick return with one taken all the way for a touchdown against the Eagles.  Now that Miles Austin is out with a sprained knee, those skills will be missed as others like Orlando Scandrick or Isaiah Stanback will have to perform them.  In his absence, the Cowboys offense hasn’t matched the point totals or yardage since, although that was partly due to the absence of Tony Romo also.

While the Cowboys are hoping to get through this 2-game home stretch against two non-winning teams, it will be a most welcome site when Felix Jones returns to the playing field.
