Jones – Phillips and Coaching Staff to Return in 2009

For those that wanted the Cowboys to be on the lookout for a new coach in 2009 – think again.  Jerry Jones has come out and stated that the Cowboys will not have a new head coach in 2009, meaning that Wade Phillips will be back for this third season as the head man for the leagues most disruptive team.

“The coaches are in place. I’ve said that. How can I be any clearer?” Jones said. “Look, I’ve said that our coaching staff, as far as I’m concerned, is in place. I just want to make the statement rather than answer questions, because your questions imply certain things that I don’t want to imply. I’m saying that when I look at where we are coaching staff-wise and when I look at where we are personnelwise, I see a team that is in place to compete for several years.”

Phillips did lead the team to a NFC East title and a 13-3 mark last year before losing to the Giants in the divisional round at home.  This season has been much tougher, as the team was without leader Tony Romo for awhile as he had a fractured pinkey.  The team is 9-6 and needs to win on Sunday in Philly to make a trip to the postseason as a wild card.

Jones says that even if the Cowboys lose and don’t make the playoffs, Phillips is safe as the teams head coach.  “Look, can y’all not understand statements?” Jones said. “What the (expletive) is going on here? Really. I really don’t understand what is going on. The coaching staff is in place. The coaching staff is in place. The building is here. You want to ask the question, what if it blows down?”

  1. Cowboy Lament says:

We have become a laughinstock. Romo is not a QB. Phillips is not a coach. Garret is offensive. Jerry Jones, seems to have more money then football acumen.

I have been a ‘Boys fan for 48 years. That’s almost as bad as being an Orioles fan.

Maybe Angelos and Jones can field one good team between the 2 of them. They certainly have enough money to buy something worthwhile!

  2. Ted "the Winker" says:

Jerry Jones has drove this franchise into the toilet with all the glamour and money making schemes to get the boys on primetime but the jig is up and this team needs a bill parcells type of coach or they are going nowhere fast.
