Deal With Canty Won’t Get Done Before the Start of Free Agency

The Cowboys tried to get a deal done with Chris Canty before he hits the free agent market on Friday, but according to the Dallas Morning News, it won’t get done. Here is the tidbit about Canty from today’s edition.

The Cowboys will not be able to get a deal done with defensive end Chris Canty before free agency begins Friday. They met with Canty’s agent, Brad Blank, on Sunday and simply are unable to make an offer to him that would prevent him from testing the market. “They drafted Chris and gave him an opportunity and I think he’ll do well in the free agency period,” Blank said. “That’s the way the business works.” If the market does not bear the fruit Canty seeks, then he could come back, but with an increase in the 3-4 teams in the league now he figures to be a prized target.
