WR Hurd Could Have a Big Impact for the Cowboys in 2009

Sam Hurd
Today’s Dallas Morning News reports that the new go-to guy for the Cowboys taking the place of T.O. in 2009 may be Sam Hurd, who is coming off an injury from 08:

With Terrell Owens gone, everybody moves up a peg at wide receiver. Sam Hurd, at present, is No. 4. A year ago, Hurd was more known than Miles Austin, but an ankle injury ended Hurd’s ’08 season and Austin made more plays in the off-season, training camp and preseason. Hurd is healthy now and said he was healthy by the time last season ended. He is reliable. He can contribute on every special teams unit. He is indefatigable.

He has a battery that doesn’t run low. Now he has a chance to be a regular contributor on offense. Technically, he can sign elsewhere as a restricted free agent, but the Cowboys put the $1.545 million second-round tag on him. Had they kept Owens and a team made a run at Hurd, I think the Cowboys would have let him go.
