Jets to take a look at Austin

According to the Dallas Morning News, the New York Jets have developed an interest in Restricted Free Agent Miles Austin. The team is meeting with the former undrafted wide receiver today and Friday. Austin received a second-round tender from the Cowboys which is worth $1.545 million. The Cowboys would have the right to match any offer made on the receiver, and would receive a second round draft choice in the upcoming draft to compensate for the loss.

The Jets interest in Austin is somewhat of a shocker considering the 4th year player has 18 catches for 354 yards and 3 touchdowns in his career. Given the fact that they would have to give up the 52nd overall pick in the draft to acquire the services of Austin, the Jets would have to be completely onboard with Jerry Jones opinion of his potential. Austin showed that potential last year in camp and preseason, however he was used sparingly due to two different knee injuries.

It will be interesting to see if the Cowboys match any offer that the Jets may give to Austin. Jerry Jones has held a high opinion of the receiver this off-season, but the potential or having two second round picks would be hard for him to resist considering he doesn’t own one in the first round. The Jets have until April 17th to make an offer on Miles Austin, and the Cowboys would have one week to match any offers. If the Cowboys are unwilling to match any offers, than just maybe Jerry Jones will get what he wanted all along, and once again prove that he is a great salesman.
