WR Not a First Day Priority

With the departure of Terrell Owens this offseason, Cowboys fans will surely be looking for the team to draft a WR in the lower rounds of the 2009 NFL Draft. But that may not be a reality. Jerry Jones has come forward and said, “the team is in a position to draft the best available player” with each pick. And given the teams success with that process in the past, he makes a strong point.

Like it or not, Jerry is confident with the receivers that are currently on the roster. The team has needs elsewhere, such as Safety, Offensive Line, Linebacker, and Defensive Line. So hoping the Cowboys go after players like Brian Robiskie, Hakeem Nicks, or Kenny Britt, who all could be available at or around the Cowboys pick at 51.

Drafting a receiver in the later rounds will probably be more likely for the ‘Boys given the potential value. There will be tons of speed available in the later rounds, which is what the Cowboys are lacking at the position. Players like Mike Wallace, Tiquan Underwood, and Johnny Knox all have tremendous speed and should all be available well into the 6th round. And while he may not have jaw dropping speed, Quan Cosby is a polished receiver and a solid route runner with unbelievable hands, and he figures to be available in the later rounds as well.

Yes the Cowboys will likely draft at least one receiver in this years draft. Just don’t look for it to be in the early rounds. One thing is for sure, you can expect a lot of trading from Jerry Jones, who will without a doubt use all of those picks to move up and down.
