Cowboys Have Spots for both Kickers Folk and Buehler

The Cowboys seem like they will have a couple kickers on their roster when training camp opens in July. Pro Football Weekly reports that there easily could be a plan to have them all stick around:

PK Nick Folk said he expects to be 100 percent healthy by the start of training camp, at the latest, following his hip surgery. Eyebrows raised when the Cowboys drafted USC PK David Buehler in Round Five, but the Cowboys have big plans for him. Folk hasn’t gotten great distance on kickoffs anyway, and with the hip surgery likely to take a little juice out of his leg, the plan is to let Buehler handle the duties.

Buehler was regarded as having one of the strongest legs in college football, and he’s also a great athlete who tested better in the 40-yard dash and on the bench press than some defensive backs and linebackers at the Scouting Combine. Buehler reportedly will be tried on coverage teams, and that wouldn’t a total stretch. He played linebacker and running back at Santa Ana (Calif.) College and might be able to help the needy coverage groups.

Just don’t expect to see Buehler attempting field goals unless Folk proves too injured to kick. The team still thinks Folk has a special leg and is a valuable piece to the offense.
