Could Pacman Chatter be a Publicity Stunt?

pacman-jones
By now we’ve all heard the comments made by Jerry Jones regarding the possible return of Pacman Jones. But could this just be another publicity stunt on the part of the media hungry owner? It would seem that there would be no reason for the return of the troubled cornerback, especially after serving a seven game suspension in the middle of last season due to an altercation with a Jerry Jones appointed bodyguard.

Beyond that, the Cowboys have made a large effort to rid themselves of all of the troubled players they normally pride themselves in allowing second chances. Furthermore, bringing back Jones, could potentially hinder the development of second year pros Orlando Scandrick, and Mike Jenkins. After all, Pacman is a very good athlete, as well as a strong competitor.

Now, having said all that, IF the Cowboys were to bring Pacman back, and IF he gets back into football shape (assuming he’s not already), and IF he can stay out of trouble, he could make a positive difference to the teams push for a Superbowl.

However, at this point with the performances of Orlando Scandrick, and Mike Jenkins in coverage last season, and the addition of Gerald Sensabaugh to the Safety position, the Cowboys look poised to be better in the secondary than recent years.

In the case of Pacman Jones, the potential negatives almost seem to outweigh the potential positives of bringing back the troubled cornerback. And Cowboys fans should be encouraged to root against the re-addition of Adam “Pacman” Jones.
