Three Starters to be Held Out Due to Injury

The Cowboys are set to make their 2009 debut in Oakland on Thursday, and they will be doing it without an offensive, and two defensive starters. Fullback Deon Anderson will be held out of the game due to a knee injury that has not yet been fully evaluated.

And starting Cornerbacks Terrance Newman, and Mike Jenkins will both be held out due to injury as well. Newman and Jenkins both injured themselves in practice on the same day, and while the Cowboys coaching staff has downplayed the injuries to both players, Wade Phillips today ruled them out of the game Thursday.

The injury to Newman should have Cowboys fans holding their breath after the past two seasons filled with injury. Newman is regarded as one of the best cornerbacks in the league, but he can’t make an impact if he is not healthy. Defensive backs coach Dave Campo will likely start last years fifth round pick Orlando Scandrick, and Courtney Brown in place of Newman, and Jenkins.

Phillips also said that all four quarterbacks would play some (Romo, Kitna, McGee, and Carpenter). Also, Felix Jones, and Martellus Bennett will play at Oakland. Both players have had injuries of their own over the past few days of practice, however I wouldn’t expect to see much of Felix in the return game.
