Key Injuries Could be Disaster for Giants

On paper the Sunday night game in Arlington between the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys looks very even. Both teams have a strong multi-back running game. Both teams have a young crop of receivers that have a world of potential, and are trying to make up for production lost by one big time receiver. And both teams have a strong secondary, and relentless pass rush that continuously puts fear into the minds of opposing quarterbacks. On paper, this looks like a game that will resemble a Heavyweight fight.

Match-ups like this one are often decided due to key players rising up above the rest, and key injuries hindering the teams abilities. And so far the Giants are on the losing battle of one of those factors. The injury bug has bitten two of the Giants key defensive players, Defensive Tackle Chris Canty, and Cornerback Aaron Ross. The injury to Canty may prove to be the most meaningful for the Giants as they lose a very talented athletic defensive lineman that has proven he can put tremendous pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Not to mention the fact that he spent his first four seasons battling this Cowboys offensive line in practice, and would seemingly know their tendencies.

The injury to Ross could also prove to be very substantial. Last week the Cowboys receivers torched a Buccaneers secondary that is normally very strong, and sent a message that they were very talented and deep at the position. If the Cowboys receivers are able to play up to the level that they did last week, it will be long night for this Giants D.

Due to these two big time injuries I see this game playing right into the Cowboys hand.

Dallas Wins big 28-20.

  1. Mitch Boot says:

Wow, the Giants D backs really blew it. 3 interceptions,
Phillips all over the place making solo tackles.

The only reason it wasn’t a big blowout by the Giants was that they couldn’t score in the red zone. Otherwise it would have been 52 to 31.
