Cowboys Staying Home After 24-0 Rout of Eagles

The Dallas Cowboys have been one of the worst late season teams in the last 13 years. The well documented struggles of both the Cowboys team and quarterback Tony Romo have been pushed in their face all season, especially when December hit. On Sunday, the Cowboys pushed back.

With the privilege of hosting a home Wild Card playoff game on the line, the Cowboys bottled up the Eagles and, with some help from the Eagles, kept Philadelphia out of the end-zone and off the scoreboard all game.

The Eagles had their chances but untimely mistakes and a missed field-goal, destined the birds to a shutout.

Tony Romo threw for 311 yards, 2 touchdowns while throwing just his second interception in the last 6 games. The running-back duo of Marion Barber and Felix Jones combined for 182 yards rushing and a touchdown. The Cowboys defense blanketed the Eagles, and for only a couple of plays, shut the Eagles down completely.

Now comes the real test. Both these teams will strap it on again Saturday night (8 pm est, NBC). While the finale of the regular season was important, it seems as if it was only a dress rehearsal for perhaps the biggest game the Cowboys have played since their Super Bowl run of 1995/96.

While the Cowboys have been to the playoffs since their last title, every year they have failed to advance past the first round, and with every year, more pressure is heaped on the team. The two men taking all the heat have been coach Wade Phillips and quarterback Tony Romo. Both men being told they can’t win the big game.

This Saturday, the chips will be on the table. Can the Cowboys beat the Eagles for a third time this season? Can Tony Romo and Wade Phillips exercise the Cowboys playoff demons?

Saturday we’ll find out.
