Bryant And Gurode Injured

Well just when you thought things could not get worse for the struggling Cowboys, they did. Wade Phillips talked about injuries during his press conference today and noted two very important players. WR Dez Bryant, who is struggling with a high-ankle sprain, and G Andre Gurode.

Bryant hurt his ankle in the preseason and returned to play against the Redskins in the season opener. He suffered a minor rib injury in that game, but then the following week against the Bears, Bryant tweaked his ankle again. This could be an injury Bryant fights through the whole season. Wade Phillips is a little worried about Bryant’s status, “Dez did not practice … he’s still having problem with the ankle. We held him out again. I am worried that he might not be able to play.”

The Cowboys might also be without starting C Andre Gurode who may have suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s loss to the Titans. Gurode, who had full participation in Wednesday’s practice, complained of soreness in his knee and underwent an MRI today. The results should be known tomorrow. Phillips seemed a little unsure of his status for this week’s game against the Vikings in Minnesota. “Now walking off the field, he said, ‘I’m fine, I’m fine,'” Phillips said. “But he couldn’t go, so we’ll see how fine he is. We’ll look at it and see, and see how he feels (Friday) and so forth. I can’t predict all that.”

If Gurode cannot go, G Kyle Kosier will shift over to center and Montrae Holland will fill in for Kosier. While on most teams the center calls the adjustments at the line, Kosier has also been a signal caller for the Cowboys offensive line so the Cowboys might not lose much in that area. They will miss Gurode’s power against the Viking’s line if he is unable to go.

As for Bryant, Sam Hurd and Kevin Ogletree will pick up the slack at the receiver position. It will be good to see Ogletree make an appearance as he has been held off the field on offense after a very promising rookie season.
