The Cowboys lost Sunday’s battle of teams headed for disaster against the Vikings, and now at 1-4 have to take an even longer look in the mirror. Despite the loss and being three games under .500, owner Jerry Jones says he won’t dump head coach Wade Phillips and make wholesale changes to the coaching staff.
“I would never consider doing that during the season,” Jones said.
Jones did not give Phillips a vote of confidence despite saying he won’t be fired, and says that as of now, he does not see too much hope for a team that has underachieved all season and has already lost four games, where last season they only lost five the entire regular season.
“I’m not [optimistic],” Jones said. “I’m very disappointed. I realize the challenge that we’ve got, and we’re not playing well enough to get it done right now. We’re running out of the opportunity to make this season what we meant it to be.”
