Cowboys Use Refs During Practice

It is no secret why the Cowboys are having such a struggle this season, penalties and turnovers.  Today, Wade Phillips took some measures to hopefully help the penalty situation.  The Cowboys had a full complement of referees on hand to monitor the team scrimmage portion of practice.  It is unclear how they responded in practice but hopefully it will help the team as they get ready for the division rival New York Giants this Monday night.

The Cowboys are 3rd in the league with accepted penalties against at 49.  With company such as Detroit and Oakland ahead of them it is no wonder they are 1-4.  The Cowboys are 7th in penalty yards with 404 yards.  It is not even the amount of penalties that has killed the Cowboys but the situation in which they are called.  So many times this season the Cowboys have been driving and making progress on the field and then run into a penalty that often erases a big play, if not a scoring play.

Many people blame the coaching staff for a lack of discipline, and while that may be true, the players also have to take some responsibility.  The coaching staff hopes this latest ploy will help turn that trend around.
