Romo Not Ready, Placed On IR

The target date for Tony Romo’s return from the broken clavicle injury that has forced him to miss the last 8 1/2 games has not healed the way the Cowboys, or Romo, hoped it would. It appears that Romo will miss his ninth straight start on Christmas Day against the Cardinals and the finale against the Eagles.

Jerry Jones spoke to the media on Sunday and hinted that Romo might not see any more action this season. “We are a little behind where I thought we would be on how healthy he is.” Rumours surfaced early this morning regarding Romo’s immediate future and wether he would be added to the injured reserve list, effectively ending his season. With only two games left the Cowboys are thinking they might as well free up a roster spot.

If Romo was going to play he would likely need more than just one week of practice to shake off the rust he has collected in the last two months. Seeing as he is not practicing this week, chances that he could play in the finale against Philly were slim.

As of this afternoon, ESPN has reported that the Cowboys have placed Romo on the injured reserve list and rumours have them calling up, track star, Teddy Williams from the practice squad. Although nothing has been done officially, it would likely be either Teddy Williams, who has made the switch from CB to WR because of depth at the wideout position, or tackle Robert Brewster. Brewster was sent down to the practice squad early October because of the special teams problems the Cowboys were having. WR Jesse Holley came up and took his spot. Brewster has a lot of potential and it would be good to see him play.

It looks like it will be Kitna and, second year man, Stephen McGee the rest of the way for Dallas. Romo will set out the rest of the year and hopefully start rehab in January and get ready for mini-camps in the spring.
