Former Coaches Update

Two former Cowboy coaches have been in the news a lot lately. In Miami, Tony Sparano has been the subject of a lot of rumours as to his future with the Dolphins. Sparano and the Dolphins are coming off a disappointing season where expectations were high and the performance of Sparano’s squad was low, finishing with a second consecutive 7-9 record. The Dolphins were debating letting go of their three year head coach. Word came down yesterday that Sparano will stay with the Dolphins for another year. It was highly speculated that Sparano would be replaced by Jim Harbaugh, who is the head coach at Stanford University. Harbaugh has revitalized the Stanford football program and led them to a convincing win in this year’s Orange Bowl.

Another former coach that has had his name in the news a lot lately is Wade Phillips. Phillips, who was fired from the Cowboys after a 1-7 start this year, is making a return to Texas, this time with the Texans. Houston signed Phillips to be their defensive co-ordinator, a position he has mastered in his many stops in the NFL. Phillips is one of the best defensive co-ordinators out there, despite the Cowboys defense tanking this season. There is no doubt that Phillips will work wonders reviving the Texans defense, a group that struggled again this year.

As far as the current Cowboys coaches, there isn’t a lot to report as of yet. New head coach Jason Garrett is still in the process of evaluating players from last year. When he is finished with the players he is moving on to the scheme and coaches in what will lead to him filling out his staff for the upcoming draft and season.
