Cowboys Staff Search Update

Well it appears as though the Cowboys have finished their review and evaluation of the players over the past season and have now moved onto the coaching staff. New head coach Jason Garrett has been busy with interviews this week, and since the end of last week there have been a lot of names bantered about possibly joining the squad. Here are the latest rumors:

Offense:

John Garrett – John Garrett is currently the Cowboys tight ends coach but is interviewing with the Miami Dolphins for a position there and may not be back with the Cowboys. He would be the second offensive coach to leave, joining wide receivers coach Ray Sherman.

Bobby Williams – Williams is currently the tight ends/special teams coach at Alabama. Williams has extensive experience, mostly with Nick Saban. He could coach wide receivers or tight ends with the Cowboys.

Dan Campbell – The former Cowboy tight end was interviewed this week as well. It is not yet known for what position but it is likely to be offensive line, tight ends or receivers coach. Campbell played for the Cowboys when Parcells was coach. Campbell spent the last season in Miami coaching their o-line and could do that with the Cowboys or he could replace John Garrett if he leaves for Miami.

Defense:

Vic Fangio – Fangio was interviewed on Monday for the possible defensive co-ordinator position. Vic was defensive co-ordinator at Stanford with Jim Harbaugh and was thought to head to San Francisco when Harbaugh was hired there. Fangio has a ton of experience with stops in Indianapolis (DC), Houston (DC), Carolina (DC), Baltimore (LB), and New Orleans (LB). He brings a lot of knowledge and an aggressive system.

Eric Mangini – Mangini was let go as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns after they had a very disappointing season. Eric would be a great fit for the 3/4 system that Dallas employs. He is likely to get back into coaching and the defensive co-ordinator position might be his way back to restoring his coaching success.

Todd Bowles – Bowles interviewed for the Cowboys head coaching spot before losing out to Garrett. Bowles is currently the secondary coach in Miami but the Cowboys see a lot of potential in Bowles and the players really like him. He could be a candidate for the DC job.

Other Notables:

Mike Nolan – DC
Greg Manusky – DC
Dave Wannstedt – DC
Paul Pasqualoni – Permanent move to DC

While the carousel is likely to keep turning over the next little while, there are some of the rumors that we are hearing. There are a lot of really good coaches that may be looking to land a spot with the Cowboys.

Eric Mangini would be fantastic..2 young bright coaches running the offense and defense..That sounds like a winning combination..The Browns defense was ranked 7th in scoring defense this year.. on a defense that only has 1 1st round pick on it.(Hayden)..Mangini’s scheme are as good as Belichick’s..He confused the hell out of Brady when the Browns dismantled the Patriots..same with Brees a week later..I’m telling you this would be dynamite.

Mangini is a very interesting option. You are right, he did wonders with that defense in Cleveland. If they had an offense there, they might have something. Anytime you take down the Patriots, that is something!
