Pasqualoni Heading Back To School

For all of you who were hoping the Cowboys were going to keep Paul Pasqualoni on the coaching staff will be disappointed to learn that he has resigned as a coach with the Dallas Cowboys and has taken the head coaching job at the University of Connecticut.

Pasqualoni, who was the head coach at Syracuse University for 13 years before his first stint with Dallas in the Parcells era, was a candidate to become the full-time defensive coordinator, a job that he inherited when Wade Phillips was fired. Pasqualoni has been a long time favorite of the players and other coaches and he is a tremendous coach. Even if he wasn’t going to get the coordinator job, he is still a very valuable coach to have on your staff. He will leave a huge whole to be filled on this Cowboys coaching staff.

As every team knows, it is hard to hang on to quality coaches as opportunities come there way. UConn is a great opportunity and it is our hope that he is very successful there.

Jerry Jones released a statement about Pasqualoni earlier this afternoon: “The University of Connecticut has hired a quality man of great integrity—and a wonderful football coach. He is a leader, a great communicator, a dedicated professional and a winner. We are grateful to Paul for his contributions to the Dallas Cowboys and we wish him the very best with this new challenge.”

Jason Garrett also released a statement this afternoon: “Paul is as good a person—and as good a football coach as anyone that I have had the privilege to be associated with in my time as a player or coach in the NFL. He has everything that a college program would want from a leadership perspective. He knows the game, and he is very effective at coaching and teaching every aspect of the game. We wish nothing but the best for Coach P. and his family. I know our players and his fellow coaches here in Dallas will miss him very much.”

As the Cowboys continue to put a staff together this opens up another position. Garrett has yet to settle on a coordinator for the defense, and will continue to interview personnel. One thing is now certain, the new coordinator of the Cowboys defense will not be Paul Pasqualoni.
