Herring Leaving

While the Cowboys are in the middle of filling out their coaching staff, it looks like they are losing coaches at the same time. Reports out of Houston have Cowboys linebackers coach Reggie Herring heading to the Texans to fulfill the same position. Herring will unite with former Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips who is the defensive coordinator in Houston.

Herring has done a great job in Dallas helping linebackers DeMarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer, Greg Ellis and Bradie James all improve and in some cases reach their potential. While Spencer is still coming along, there is no disputing what Herring’s influence has done with Ware. Ware has been to 3 Pro Bowls, and been the NFL’s sack leader twice under Herring. Herring came to the Cowboys after being the defensive coordinator and secondary coach, as well as a short stint as interim head coach with the University of Arkansas Razorbacks.

With the arrival of Rob Ryan, the Cowboys were not going to hold their positional coaches out of interview opportunities with other teams as Ryan is likely going to try to bring in some of “his” people.
