Prime Time Heading To Canton

The highly prolific, headline making, high stepping, Deion Sanders is heading to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH.  Sanders, who had a very successful career as a cornerback and punt returner, was voted in to the Hall on his first ballot opportunity.  The 8-time Pro Bowler played for the Cowboys from 1995-99.

Sanders was the first player since the 60’s to start a game on both defense (CB) and offense (WR).  Sanders, also becomes the 18th former Cowboy to enter the Hall of Fame and, will be joined by Richard Dent,Marshall Faulk, NFL Films chief Ed Sabol, Chris Hanburger, Les Richter and Shannon Sharpe.

“Neon Deion,” as he was ofter referred to, played for  5 teams over his career.  He began with Atlanta, moved to San Francisco, Dallas, Washington, and finished with Baltimore.  Sanders had a career 53 interceptions over his 14 seasons in the NFL.  He had 9 defensive touchdowns and 3 touchdown receptions at wide receiver.  But, Sanders did a lot of his damage on special teams.  Deion was a constant highlight reel on punt returns, always putting fear into punters and kickers alike.  Sanders had 21 touchdowns on special teams over the span of his career.

While he may never be acknowledged as a Cowboys great, Sanders is the fifth Cowboys in the last six years to go into the Hall.  Sanders continues to be involved in football serving as an analyst for the NFL Network.
