Cowboys Not Expected to Use the Franchise Tag

The Cowboys are not expected to use their franchise tag before the February 25th deadline. ESPN Dallas only identified one Cowboys player eligible for the tag–left tackle Doug Free–but team officials say he won’t be. They also indicated, at least for now, that none of the Cowboys other13 free agents will get tagged either. Franchising Free, who finished his fourth season in 2010, could make him as much at $10 million in 2011. It’s doubtful the team would do this for a player, who became a full-time starter at left tackle for the first time in his career.
