Cowboys’ wide receiver Troy Bergeron will play football during the labor impasse according to Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News.
Bergeron has returned to his Arena League roots, joining the Cleveland Gladiators.
Bergeron, who has spent time with Atlanta and Buffalo, finished last season on the Cowboys’ practice squad and stayed under the club’s control by signing a future/reserve contract. Players signed to that contract go on the club’s expanded off-season roster when the 2011 NFL year begins.
That has not yet happened because of the failure of owners and the National Football League Players Association to work out a new collective-bargaining agreement.
A Gladiators’ official said today that Bergeron joined the team because without a collective-bargaining agreement, his contract with the Cowboys no longer applied.
