Cowboys Still Planning Training Camp in San Antonio

The Cowboys are still planning on holding their training camp in the Alamodome in San Antonio.

“(The Cowboys) are still planning the three-week camp, and we have heard no differently,” Mike Sawaya, director of the department that oversees the city’s convention, sports and entertainment facilities, said in an email to Tom Orsborn of theSan Antonio Express-News.

According to Sawaya, the Cowboys have asked the dome to hold for them a three-week block of dates beginning July 25.

This is the final year of the Cowboys’ five-year, rent-free lease agreement with the Alamodome. The city has no plans to seek compensation should the team cancel its San Antonio practices.

The city made $360,000 more than it spent on camp in 2010, Sawaya said.

Should the Cowboys be forced to move camp to team headquarters in Irving, the club likely would also hold a few practices at Cowboys Stadium for the public to attend free of charge.
