Former ‘Boys Bolt To Chicago

Hurd and Williams heading to Chicago

While the free agency signing period begins today, the Cowboys are watching two of their former wide receivers head to the Chicago Bears. Roy Williams and Sam Hurd have reportedly landed in Chicago.

The Cowboys officially released Williams on Thursday and it looks as if it has taken him very little time to find work. With Chicago, Williams reunites with his former Lions coordinator Mike Martz. Williams enjoyed his best seasons under Martz and will have a chance to rediscover that success again.

Sam Hurd, who was a restricted free agent the Cowboys didn’t tender back in February, became a free agent and also told reporters that he is signing in Chicago. Hurd spent 5 years with the Cowboys and never claimed a regular place in the Cowboys offence. Hurd was a standout on special teams, and will look to make the jump to a regular receiving option in Chicago.

With the loss of both Williams and Hurd it appears that Miles Austin and Dez Bryant will likely start and younger receivers Kevin Ogletree, Manny Johnson, and this year’s sixth round pick, Dwayne Harris all will have a chance to compete for playing time. Look for the Cowboys to bring in a veteran wideout, who isn’t very costly, to compliment the group.
