Newman To Miss Preseason

A week ago we were talking about the Cowboys possibly cutting Newman, now it looks like he will miss the Cowboys preseason anyways. According to his own Twitter account, Newman is out until the Jets game with a groin pull. As most know, a groin injury has the potential to nag on far longer than initially estimated. Newman posted, “”A little groin pull and be back for the jets! The man upstairs has my back and I have his. Thanks for the encouragement. Have a good night.”

Newman was the target of many rumours and speculation when the Cowboys were in the running for Nnamdi Asomugah. When Asomugah went to the Jets, Newman had to answer a lot of “what if” questions about his future and circumstance with the Cowboys. He has had injury problems the last few years dealing with a nagging rib injury last season, and a groin tear that also turned into an abdominal strain in 2008. In the early part of 2007 he dealt with plantar fasciitis and that nagged on most of the season. With the exception of 2009, you have to go back to 2006 to see when Newman wasn’t hurt.

For the time being, Mike Jenkins will hold down the one side and Orlando Scandrick will get the chance to prove himself in practice on the other. The Cowboys will are hopeful to get the addition of restricted free agent Alan Ball tomorrow. Sixth round pick Josh Thomas and second year man Bryan McCann will fight it out as well.

Hopefully Newman will be back to full capacity by the season opener against the Jets.

Tnew is my boy! But damm when will he finally be health for a season! He definely need to take a pay cut!

Yeah, it is hard to swallow 8.5 mil a season when he keeps missing time. When he is healthy he is great, but he is rarely healthy these days. I like Newman, hopefully we have some depth at the corner spot, but any injury to a corner has me a little anxious!
