Reports Say Cowboys Talking to NT Jay Ratliff About Extension

The Cowboys have had discussions with Jay Ratliff’s agent, Mark Slough, about a contract extension for the Pro Bowl nose tackle, according to a source.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones probably didn’t do himself any favors Wednesday in regard to leverage in the negotiations by mentioning Ratliff’s salary during the team’s annual kickoff luncheon at Cowboys Stadium.

Jones was discussing the fairness of the NFL’s new collective bargaining agreement when he made an off-the-cuff joke.

“We have assured that we will have 10 years of where we don’t have any issues with anything regarding clubs, players or those types of salaries. Now, I will make an exception,” Jones said. “Jay Ratliff will tell you, ‘You’ve got a big issue, Jerry, with my salary. I need a little more money.’
