Rookie Tyron Smith Joins Growing Injured List

Tyron Smith is the latest Cowboy to suffer an injury

Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett was loving life at the beginning of Wednesday’s practice. After all, he had Miles Austin, Phil Costa, and Marcus Spears all back at practice after suffering injuries during the preseason. As practice went on, Garrett’s mood changed.

After watching CB Mike Jenkins go down with an apparent knee injury, Garrett saw his first round draft pick hit the dirt with the similar apparent knee injury. Both players are expected to receive MRI’s today and their status for Sunday night’s opener versus the New York Jets is now in doubt.

While both players are big losses, Smith might be bigger. The Cowboys have only Jeremy Parnell on the roster to provide any depth at tackle. Parnell played only one year of college ball, and while the Cowboys like him, they hoped they wouldn’t have to start him this year.

It does appear that the injury bug is starting to set in early for the Cowboys. The Cowboys are hoping that it is only a minor injury bug and both Smith and Jenkins will be okay for Sunday. We all know they will need them.
