Controversy surrounds Cowboys WR Dez Bryant after Week one

It seems like compelling news follows Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant everywhere he goes.

Whether it be his post-game Terrell Owens-esque interview (4:42-5:05 mark) vehemently backing his quarterback, or the new issue: should he continue returning punts?

Nonetheless, the talented pass catcher is creating quite a stir following the club’s Sunday night loss to the Jets.

Tony Romo’s big-play target injured his quad during a punt return in the first quarter. Bryant also dealt with cramping issues in the game.

This came after the clinic Dez put on during the team’s first drive, which consisted of 45 yards and a touchdown to put the ‘Boys ahead 7-0.

Now, the dynamic Dez could be relieved of the punt return privileges he “loves” because owner Jerry Jones seems concerned:

“I’m just saying he’s getting hurt on returns,” Jones told ESPN.com. “He got knocked out last year and got limited in this game on a punt return.”

“I love doing it,” said Bryant, who finished with three catches for 71 yards and a touchdown against the Jets. “I just feel like things happen. I love it a lot. I feel like any moment, I can make a big splash on it.

“But, hey, it’s whatever Mr. Jones wants. If he don’t want me doing it, it’d be sad. I would love to continue doing it, but hey, he makes the calls.”

Why is Jones making the calls?  Why shouldn’t the Oklahoma State product be on the field as much as possible to make plays?

Jerruh’s right. I’d rather have a healthy dez bryant for tony to throw to than anything else, and someone else can return punts or whatever. tony and dez look to have found a lot of the chemistry they didn’t have last year, i think if dez was at 100% all game on sunday none of those terrible things would ever have happened and we’d be sitting at 1-0.
