Cowboys Add LB Connor; S Pool

The Cowboys busy free agent period continued on Thursday with the additions of LB Dan Connor and S Brodney Pool. The Cowboys signed 4 players on Wednesday and have seemed determined to make sure they fill all holes before the draft at the end of April.

In Connor, the Cowboys have picked up a veteran inside linebacker who will act as insurance if Bruce Carter is unable to carry the load. The four year veteran from Carolina played with, fellow Cowboy linebacker, Sean Lee for two-years at Penn State. While Connor isn’t the best coverage linebacker, he is a menace against the run.

Connor already has received praise from head coach Jason Garrett, “The right kind of guy, a very productive player for them,” he said of Connor.

The Cowboys also added another player to their secondary. With the decision not to sign S Abram Elam to another contract the Cowboys signed his former partner in Cleveland, Brodney Pool. Pool is a former second round pick of Cleveland’s in 2005. He has played extensively over his career with Cleveland and the New York Jets.

Pool immediately adds another veteran presence to the secondary, but also has some good range and speed. “A very athletic safety,” head coach Jason Garrett said. “We have familiarity with him. He played in Rob’s system, he played for Jerome Henderson in Cleveland, so we know him. He’s a guy we spoke to last year during that abbreviated free agency period.”

Pool and Connor join QB Kyle Orton, CB Brandon Carr, FB Lawrence Vickers, and G Makenzy Bernadeau as the Cowboys 6 signings so far this free agency period.
