Dak Prescott Gets a Vote of Confidence From Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones

Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones gave quarterback Dak Prescott his full support after Prescott turned the ball over twice in Monday night’s damaging 28-14 loss at home to the Tennessee Titans before a national television audience and he doubled down on that support on Tuesday according to David Helman of dallascowboys.com.

“Dak is the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys,” Jones said in his weekly radio spot. “He’s young, and he’s going to get extended.” There is no ambiguity in Jones’ statement despite the fact that Prescott’s play has visibly deteriorated since his rookie season. Prescott is first eligible for an extension this offseason and the Cowboys would have the option of using a franchise tag if nothing gets done after the 2019 season, so the two sides have plenty of time to get something done.

Perhaps Jones realizes that Prescott does not have the same level of talent surrounding him as he did during his rookie season. Ezekiel Elliott is still there but Dez Bryant and Jason Witten are gone and the offensive line has crumbled in 2018. Those are all issues out of Prescott’s control that the GM needs to address. Most importantly, if Jones wants Prescott to be the longterm answer in Dallas, he needs to address an ineffective head coach and a coaching staff that has grown stale.
