Cowboys to Release Reinstated LB Rolando McClain

Multi-troubled linebacker Rolando McClain has been conditionally reinstated by the NFL but he won’t be rejoining the Dallas Cowboys as the team plans to release him as soon as his reinstatement becomes official on Tuesday according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.com.

The Cowboys are loaded at the linebacker position, and McClain’s $5 million salary would have been way too much to pay considering that he’s been out for three years.

He will be eligible to sign with any team in the NFL but it is questionable whether he will find any interest given his history of off-the-field problems, substance abuse issues, the long layoff, and the fact that he is 30 years old. There is no denying his talent, however, as an All-American linebacker at Alabama.
