Cowboys Draft Order is Set; Who Will They Take in the First Round?

Now that the NFL season is done and over, the Dallas Cowboys as well as the other 31 teams in the league can start turning their attention to one of the biggest events of the year – the NFL Draft.

The 2020 NFL Draft will take place in Paradise, Nevada on Thursday April 23rd to Saturday April 25th. There are all kinds of NFL betting odds on who will go one, but Cowboy fans are all about who Big D is going to select.

The event will be televised live on both ESPN and the NFL Network, and both outlets do knockout coverage letting fans know every detail about every player chosen (and even some that are not).

The Cowboys with new head coach Mike McCarthy and staff are already doing their part to scout for the draft, and you will see many of them next head to Indianapolis to the NFL combine which will be held from February 23rd to March 2nd.

It’s a time for coaches and assistants and general managers to be able to chat with players that might someday be on the teams roster.

This season with the way that the year ended for the Cowboys going 8-8 and missing out on the playoffs, they will be selecting 17th.

The team will pick ahead of the Miami Dolphins, who are getting the 18th overall pick from the Pittsburgh Steelers which came from the Minkah Fitzpatrick trade which took place early in the season.

Picking ahead of the Cowboys will be the 7-9 Atlanta Falcons, who have used their last three first-round picks in the draft on offense, so with as bad as their defense has been in recent years, they might reverse the trend in 2020.

As for the Cowboys, here’s what ESPN had to say when it comes to trying to figure out who exactly they are going to choose.

The Cowboys might need to address wide receiver, with no contract yet for Amari Cooper and Randall Cobb also slated for free agency. The secondary also is an area that could be hit hard by free-agent departures.

Yes wide out is a position of need for the Cowboys, but according to popular NFL draft site Walter Football, the Cowboys are not going to go wide out, but safety.

They have Dallas with the 17th pick taking LSU safety Grant Delpit.

Here’s what the site has to say about the Cowboys and the selection of Delpit.

The Cowboys tried to land Earl Thomas last offseason, but they haven’t been able to upgrade their hole at safety. Perhaps they’ll do that with this pick.

Grant Delpit is an exceptional talent who was once considered a top-10 lock, but he didn’t have the best of seasons in 2019, and that could be to the Cowboys benefit if he does fall to the 17th spot.
