CB Mike Jenkins Injured During Practice

More Secondary Concerns

Cowboys starting cornerback Mike Jenkins suffered an injury during Wednesday’s practice, according to owner Jerry Jones.

Jones said the South Florida product did not experience a setback to his neck, which was injured during training camp and caused him to miss all of preseason.

The flamboyant owner would not distinguish Jenkins’ mishap or how it occurred.

The team’s owner also said Terence Newman, who is dealing with an injured groin, likely would not play Sunday night against the Jets.

“I thought he’d be ready by now,” echoed Jones, who added there’s a possibility the club might begin the campaign with only three corners. “He’s a guy that has to have it just right and we need to get it just right. We’re not considering him available for the Jets.”

“We’ve got [Alan] Ball, who we feel real good about out there, who can go with [Orlando] Scandrick.”

Looking elsewhere: It’s unfortunate fifth-round pick (Buffalo) CB Josh Thomas was claimed by the Panthers off waivers.  Thomas did not make the final 53-man roster.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah called up from the practice squad.  Owusu-Ansah played cornerback in college.

More woes: Jones also said an offensive lineman suffered an injury during practice but wouldn’t get into details.  Protection for Tony Romo is the last area where Big D needs to get decimated by the injury bug.
